An e-commerce platform for luxury hotels: Merixstudio & Journey
00:00 → 00:04
I'm Tim Wardle. I'm the Technical Director of Journey.
00:04 → 00:08
We're building a one stop shop e commerce
00:08 → 00:10
platform for luxury hotels.
00:10 → 00:13
We were struggling to get talent in the UK,
00:14 → 00:18
so we were looking at offshore
00:18 → 00:20
development
00:20 → 00:23
and we looked at different options.
00:23 → 00:24
We looked at Sri Lanka,
00:24 → 00:29
we looked at hiring freelancers in Europe,
00:29 → 00:34
but one of our partners recommended Merixstudio.
00:34 → 00:37
We came to Poznan and we looked at a few different
00:37 → 00:39
development houses.
00:40 → 00:43
Merixstudio was the one that best fit our culture,
00:43 → 00:45
so chose it.
00:45 → 00:49
We found we were very confident very quickly that it was the right solution.
00:49 → 00:51
There were some concerns.
00:51 → 00:54
I'd had not great experiences with an
00:54 → 00:56
organisation in Sri Lanka before,
00:57 → 01:00
so I was already nervous.
01:00 → 01:04
But I knew from the first call that we had over video
01:04 → 01:06
that it was very
01:07 → 01:09
effective and communication was easy.
01:11 → 01:16
The language barrier was almost non existent and it was really easy.
01:16 → 01:18
Daily communication is really easy.
01:18 → 01:23
We have a daily stand up on a video chat every morning.
01:23 → 01:27
The whole team is involved in that, so we know all the faces.
01:28 → 01:31
And then we have a Slack channel where we can
01:31 → 01:35
talk over instant messenger or hop
01:35 → 01:37
on a video call whenever,
01:37 → 01:41
and I do that maybe a few times a day,
01:41 → 01:45
and then combined with visits here, it's really easy.
01:45 → 01:49
We already had a fully formed team that all had worked
01:49 → 01:53
together before, so we didn't have to worry about that.
01:53 → 01:58
But also, we could just get the skills we needed without any worry, you know,
01:58 → 02:01
we only have to give a few weeks notice to change
02:02 → 02:06
a role for another or add an extra person or
02:06 → 02:11
even reduce if we need it, if the product priority shifted.
02:11 → 02:15
And it's that not having to worry about the talent
02:15 → 02:18
and being able to rely on it that's the real key.
02:18 → 02:22
And honestly, the talent is brilliant.
