Integration in Merixstudio - what happens when we're not working

This month we had a chance to go out and bond with our new cooworkers. In addition to that, our office was visited by a special consultant, we were working on another Dev College workshop and, as usual, we organized a lot of internal workshops. As you can see, we hate boredom in the office!

5. Returning to the office after a holiday is never pleasant - once again you have to get up early and be focused for 8 hours. Maciek and Anita decided to make this process easier for three of our employees by secretly decorating their desks! Pranksters used bubble wrap, old paper folders, pick-up sticks and loads of toilet paper! As one of the recipients of this jolly gift, I can say that I loved this idea! It makes working a lot easier when you have a little reminder of what kind of people you have by your side.;) Interestingly, decorations from toilet paper were done so artistically that few garlands were removed in the penultimate week of January (when they began to detach from the wall)! Here and here you can see pictures of two other desks - let's find out whether you agree with my admiration.

10. Nothing motivates more than new employees in the office! Jan (Account Manager), Filip (Project Manager) and Grzegorz (Drupal Developer) joined our Merixstudio family, thanks to what we can work ever more efficient than before! We are slowly discovering additional talents of our new colleagues, such as Jans near native English. No we know whom we have to ask for help when we have a word on the tip of our tongues, but cannot remember it. ;) Congratulations to the HR team for this great recruitment!

15. This month we also had a little visitation in our office!A Barketing expert, Feta, who showed us the professional way of barking at the water suppliers and napping during working hours. We have to admit that this type of course is not cheap, as payment Feta demanded treats, cuddling and a professional photo shoot. We can honestly admit that the consultation was worth all the costs - every single one of us happily greeted Feta when she was inspecting work of all departments. From unofficial sources we also know that there was a shameful bribery incident in the form kiełbasa. Thankfully our visitor reacted very enthusiastically to this turn of events! We look forward to the next four-legged visitor in our office, but are a little bit sad that Feta is a freelancer and dont want to permanently join our team.

20. Monday of the last full week of January is known as Blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year. Despite the fact that this term is described as pseudoscientific, we decided to better be safe than sorry and took it quite seriously. The more trusted scientist have said that the way we feel is profoundly affected by endorphins and exercise, which sadly is not a big part of a office work life. We were a little bit reluctant toward going to the gym or running around the block in the group of almost 50 people, but the idea suggested itself through the recent opening of the Jump Aren!. It turned out that our plan of avoiding vigorous exercise faded to nothing - Jump Arena is not only about tomfoolery on trampolines!However, this does not mean that we had a bad time there. On the contrary - we all jumped around like maniacs, dove into foam pits, some of us even did somersaults in the air! The plan to improve our mood was a success - even soreness of the next day was not so bad when almost everybody in the office suffers from it. ;)

25. Recently Star Wars shook the world, even our website celebrated the return to the galaxy far, far away! It is therefore only right to choose Piotrs shirt with Millennium Falcon as the best #GeeksirtFriday of the month! In Merixstudio we are quite happy with the new part of the saga, we also discuss whether (SPOILER ALERT!) Ray is the daughter of Luke or Obi Wan. It will remain a mystery until December 2017 - may the Force be with us!

Blue Monday week began with our visit on Jump Arena, so it was only logical to end it with pizza and good beer!We left our lunchboxes at home and together worked on regaining calories we have lost few days earlier. When making the order, it became clearly visible how much Merixstudio has grown in last few months - ordering pizza for nearly 50 people is a task that requires some serious logistics! Luckily, everyone left the office quite full and happy - mission accomplished!

35. Merixstudios conference rooms are rarely empty - if we are not meeting with clients, we use them for conducting training courses. Every Tuesday our largest conference room is booked for Project Management team - they are our role models when it comes to the the regularity and quality of meetings! This month Marcin, Frontend Developer, joined them and talked about mobile and hybrid applications. The whole group discussed the possibilities of Ionic and went over it with a fine-tooth comb, regarding both the Developer-Project Manager cooperation and the individual usage. A lot of our co-workers take these training courses as a big advantage of working in Merixstudio - as you can see, we really like learning! ;)

40. 27/05/2015 is a special date for us - it is the day that we started working with AKAI (Academic Club of Internet Application) on a series of DevCollege trainings. By this time the excitement had time to subside, and we can admit with all confidence that DevCollege is a unquestionable success! Until now we had the opportunity to meet about 52 students with whom we spent more than 24 hours on unveiling secrets of WebSockets, Django, Symfony2 and Drupal. In January we were working on preparation of another workshop - Mateusz and Mikołaj, who started this whole adventure, are coming back as teachers! This training will be held for the first time on Saturday - we wanted to make the attendance possible for students with more rigorous weekday schedule. As participants learn about the web development, we are constantly working on our teaching and organizing skills - we can only hope that with each new training participants are more and more satisfied with our efforts!

45. As you can see, in Merixstudio we are not afraid of devoting our time and energy to integration. By creating a friendly atmosphere we can make working easier and getting up in the morning not as difficult as it can sometimes be - nothing is able to affect our good moods! However, due to the tight schedules we currently cannot afford having a lot of time taken by our usual shenanigans. We came up with an idea of combining workload with entertainment by having the Grand Tournament in Rock-Paper-Scissors! The gameplay is quick, don't distract us from working but still brings a lot of childlike joy, what is clearly visible in the video! Currently we are at the second round of the tournament, so we have to wave our hands a lot before finding out who is a master of this very tricky game. ;) Don't be afraid, we will not keep winners identity hidden - good Instagram photo is the part of the prize!

50. Everyone who reads Marketing w Praktyce has already had the opportunity to read this article in its printed form. The author, Piotr, is a Team Leader of Project Management department and is well known in the office by his perfectionism and incredible attachment to details. We don't know how he does it, but his work is always impeccable AND he has time to write good articles! Those of you, who don't have a subscription of the magazine, can now read Piotrs article on our blog - find out why is it worth to include wireframing in web projects!

January in Merixstudio was filled with many interesting events - this is quite a good omen for the rest of the year! We hope that February won't bring us a decrease of energy - you can be up to date with our adventures on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
