"Highway to Hell or Stairway to Heaven – what is the IT job?" I tried to answer this question together with my work mate – Miłosz (Django Team Leader).

We started with short info about Merixstudio: since when we have been working, what are our core technologies and what is our workflow.
After this short introduction, Miłosz told his 7-year story of being dev at Merixstudio. He started with his interview (which was that long that his family was worried about him and started looking for Miłosz), through the first, less complex projects, until today. He presented thus his personal growth as a developer: from builiding websites with a usage of PHP and front-end works to focusing on Django, potential and opportunities of which were noticed by him. Internal courses and develoment after hours (which is really important for devs) leave the door open to being a part of project team working on GoDealla. Miłosz is keeping a weather eye on this portal, which aggregates all the best local daily deals and vouchers from Poland. Miłosz ended his story by talking about the role of Team Leader of Django team, among other things, his impact on th whole crew and its work.

In my part of the speech I presented other position than IT jobs that are available at Merixstudo. I wanted to bring out that tech background isn't that important for us. What counts is a passion and willingnesss to develop new skills. For example: one of our QAs is a graduate of History, PM is a graduate of Chemistry and we have an Account Manager who is graduated of Cogitive Science. So if you have passion and you want to improve your skills, we as a company will help you with this. Internal trainings, the ability to develop your language skills and the opportunities to take part in the biggest summits are just some of the possibilities.

You also don't need to worry if you're still studying or you're just at the beginning of your career and don't know exactly what you want to do. During our speech I also mentioned DevCollege – the workshops conducted by our colleagues from the office. Meetings are about web and game development and project management. They will help you improve your skills, but also may show you the right path of career.
At the end of our presentation I told about one more important thing in every workplace... the atmosphere and the crew. If you have an ambition, you want to go on and learn from the best, the close-knit team can help you with this. Good atmosphere will encourage your personal growth and make the work much more enjoyable.
The event was well-organised and extremely professional. Our speech has been received in a very positive way. We will share our knowledge in the next edition of Aula Poznań with a great pleasure, if there be a possibility.
