Best christmas gifts for programmers and IT people

Top of the list - Cool T-shirts & Hoodies

Dress code in a typical software house (and in most IT companies) is more than casual, so it’s easier to find an employee in a tracksuit than in a regular one. That’s why if you’re buying some cloth for a present, it should be rather a t-shirt or a hoodie. What sort of things you need to take into consideration? The main rule is to either keep it simple or to go really wild. Cool prints and crazy pictures are welcomed - you can find some inspiration on our Instagram by checking #GeekShirtFriday.

If you prefer to take a little bit safer way, we recommend plain and quality tops. Take a look at brands like Champion, Carhartt, North Face or extremely soft and cozy Nakenato hoodies.

Socks don’t suck - Wacky Socks

Socks are not anymore a boring gift from grandma. The range of products is enormous, and you can find real gems like the pair with sushi or sausage dog (3). Silly socks might be a good idea for those of people in IT who want (or have to - poor guys) wear more formal clothes but still express their peculiar personality. If you still feel like this is a too down-to-earth choice, give it a noble dimension by ordering socks from John :)

A whole package - Geek box

This concept assumes the present to be a surprise for the recipient ... and giver. But don’t be afraid - you are not buying a pig in a poke. The box is stuffed with items carefully chosen to provide the coolest and quality geek gadgets. Websites like Mygeekbox, Lootcreate, Geekfuel or polish Pixel Box have got monthly subscription plans, but most of them also offer a gift option so you can buy a single box.

Cup of IT - Mugs

This is always a good idea as we need constant fueling with a coffee at work. Having own unique mug is a great solution when all of the company one are in the dishwasher. That’s also another way to make own space snug and more individual. Just check this fabulous Ghostbuster’s trap molded mug (3) or stylish Pantone Living Coral (color of 2019) one.

Devs just want to have fun - Toys and games

There’s a reason why chillout room has become an obligatory element of the software house’s plan. If you notice a gay bringing own pad to the office, it means he most likely works in IT. 2019 editions of games like FIFA, Assassin's Creed, The Tomb Raider, Forza Horizon, Call of Duty or Fallout are dead certs, but at the same time, it’s probably no.1 on the lists of a lot of people looking for some gifts for developers. So maybe try to go analog and buy some board game or constructional set to build own robot from LEGO or Make Blog?

Oh, and here’s a little secret we can give away - if it comes to entertaining presents for IT people, the utility is the least important and you can choose something really ridiculous like Unicorn Meat (2) or huge enter key (1).

Looks good not only on the paper - UX Stationery

Beside chillout room, UX department is another place kids would love most in a whole software house. You’ll find there tons of colorful markers, crayons, and sticky notes in all shapes. UX people love painting, drawing and get their hands dirty. Everything that can help them to make awesome visualizations like pastel colors packed in a pan format (1) will be a match for a Christmas gift.

Pimp up my Mac - Stickers

A solution for Scrooge. Don’t be surprised if the recipient will find it the best present he/she got this year. Programmers just adore stickers for the ability to personalize their laptops (which btw increases productivity) but also to awake their inner hunter and gatherer. You can fill the whole box with them and not blowing all your money at once. You can order some Django, Python, Javascript stickers but try also so other themes like space, pop art, comics, superheroes, and just funny nonsense stuff.

If you’re looking for some more ideas and inspiration, you can visit websites like Geeky Gadgets, Think Geek, Oddity Mall as well as watch some episodes of Big Bang Theory or Silicon Valley.
