Meet Merix: Miłosz – Django Developer

Miłosz is a real Merix pro - he's working here since April 2009. He works as Full-stack Developer (with a focus on Django). Miłosz is an expert in his field, so we can entrust sophisticated projects and also caring for young Django Devs him to safe keeping. At Merixstudio, he is known for his sense of humor and... office trolling :)

  • Tell us something about yourself.
I'm an unshowy person, so it's difficult to talk about myself for me. I can easily list my negative characteristics - one of them is that I spend a lot of money on fuel.
  • What are your main responsibilities at MerxiStudio?
I am a Full-stack Developer here. I deal with both frontend and backend (Django). What is more, every candidate for the post of Django Developer fall into my hands - I try to get to know that person and find out if he/she will be fit into our team. If they get this job, unfortunately (for them) they still have to work with me (or next to me).
  • How do you work? What is important to you while working?
Usually, I sit when I'm working - I don't like standing and typing at the same time; it's impractical ;) I don't waste my time on drinking coffee in the morning - I am too young to drink drinks for adults. First, I check e-mails and then usually have meeting with the boss and my team. After that, I work hard. The whole day I solve strange problems together with others Django Devs. What is most important to me is good communication at work.
  • Tell us something about beginnings in the company.
I've been working here since 2009. I started from small projects with which I learned how to work on creating websites. Help from my work buddies was invaluable then because it was my first foray into programming. I could go in for more serious projects when I gained little more experience. And then, I could co-work with my team in earnest. It was great because I think that learning with and from your crew is the best you can do. I gained the nickname "Czesio" - probably it's because I had voice breaking when I started work here (cheers!) :D
  • You've been working in MerixStudio for a long time. How has the company changed at this time?
When I started, we were a small group of people creating websites. I used PHP then, but fortunately for me, those days are gone and now I can write a beautiful code in Python. A few years ago we couldn't take care of the code quality as we would like. But now, with new, modern technologies we can do that and everything that we do is top notch.
  • Have you learned something while working at MerixStudio? What?
Yes, I have learned how to working on large projects in groups.
  • What do you like working at MerixStudio?
A sense of humor of colleagues, trolling and paintings on the walls :D
  • What cool things have you worked on at MerixStudio?
The mobile app in Titanium for iOS. I have always wanted to create my iOS application. I used familiar technologies HTML/CSS/JS, and it succeeded. However, in the beginning, it wasn't easy because a lot of things didn't work as it should.
Of course, I cannot forget about the largest and the longest project I'm working on - GoDealla. When I found Django in 2010, we launched a group buying and daily deals aggregator which provides all discounts of a chosen city. I'm developing and improving that website unto this day.
  • Why did you choose Drupal?
At first, Django gives you more productivity, and it's easier to program a logic of an application. Python is a little bit like JavaScript. JavaScript is the programming language I started my education in this field. It's probably why I like Python from the beginning. There's much more clear division than in PHP. And a number of applications make that implementation of new features is not a problem.
  • First thing you do when you get to the office
    I reset Windows.
  • What do you do in a free time after work?
I plug my laptop into the car and noodle around. Sometimes I run.
  • Where is your favorite place in Poznań?
    The Old Square.
  • Beer or vodka?
    Vodka definitely. Pure "oily" Finlandia.
  • Favorites sport?
I play football. I also love watching the athletics Olympics and volleyball.
  • Dog or cat?
A cat. Dog bit me once.
  • The website you visit the most.
    Wykop.pl
  • Favorite app?
    Brand24
  • If you could only visit one website for the rest of your life, what site would that be?
    Pajacyk.pl
  • If you could have your dream job, what it would be?
    Pizza man or taxi driver.

As always, we're waiting for your questions :) And as usually we encourage you to read previous interviews: with Marcin and Mateusz - our Frontend guys; and with Michał - Drupal Dev.
