Thank you, March, for the increase of energy - summary of the month

February was eventful, but March and its various activities put it to shame. There are so many things that happened this month that I'm not gonna write a lengthy introduction - let's get straight to the list!

5. For the second time, we invaded Nova Piwiarnia to meet up with the community gathered around Django. This time we were taught by Wojtek Jurkowlaniec (Senior Software Engineer at F-Secure Corporation) and Miłosz, Team Leader of our Django Team. But if you ever attended Django Hotspot, then you know that it’s not only about listening to speakers. First of all, there’s free beer. ;) Secondly, every presentation is filled with discussions, questions, and sharing experiences. So in some sense, every participant can teach others something new. 6. Puzzles... are girl's best friends?
8. Guys from our office decided to get their female coworkers to work on the #InternationalWomensday... 10. 8th of March is International Women's Day and, since we have 12 of them in the office, it was rather predictable that some kind of celebration was going to happen. However, our guys couldn't be themselves without some tricks up their sleeves. They gathered every female colleague in our Scrum Room and then... gave us one tulip each. While it's the gesture that matters, we were a bit puzzled (see what I did there?) since they usually are a bit more thoughtful. Then Maciek reached behind the TV and grabbed a box, where he hid custom puzzles! We were challenged to finish them in the shortest time possible to win a big bouquet of roses. Obviously, Paulina won - when you practise cross fit, you are naturally the best at everything you do. ;) I have to congratulate my coworkers - their gift was well thought out and personal! Thank you on behalf of every woman of Merixstudio!

15. On the 7th of March Anita and Bartek left Poznań and travelled to Kraków to attend 6th Mobile Trends Conference 2017. Their next three days were filled with learning, getting inspired, and even (I suspect) stressing a bit. While the first two things are not hard to understand, the stress was connected to the fact that Bartek had his time on the stage! He was presenting the opportunities (and risk :)) of PWA and every participant could take part in his presentation or answer questions via smartphone. But I don't have to describe their adventure here - Anita already did that in the separate article on our blog!

20. Working with people can go either way - you cancan support each other and have fun or dread every minute you have to talk to your teammates. Guess which option we prefer? ;) To ensure that we all know AND LIKE each other we organise integrations, where we can spend some quality time away from responsibilities. This time we chose to visit Zakręcona Bila and play some eightball. Before we started all the fun we obviously ate some pizza - no surprises there! However, once again I don't have to write a lot about it! There's no article that describes our outing - that wouldn't be very interesting (or too interesting;)) on the corporate blog. However, we have the video that will show you what it means to party with us!

25. Last month we started a new tradition - monthly publications of the internal newspaper. It was so well received in February, that people were asking me and Anita (the editorial board;)) about the next issue! Similar to the first edition, our newspaper was filled with real news that had some creative twists, great photoshops, culinary recommendations, sports section, ads, even the horoscope! However, this time we had a guest author - our Business Developer Michał, who didn't have a single problem with matching the style of our texts. I'm happy to announce that our paper was once again a hit - where's our Pulitzer prize, dammit?!?

30. I've mentioned that our Project Managers were busy with work during March. But being a busy bee is what you expect from people that have so much knowledge when it comes to Scrum! As you can see on two middle pictures, Kamil and Radek are certified Scrum Masters - talk about constant improvement! ;) But receiving those diplomas and certificates are not the last thing they did to perfect their skills - sometimes they even meet up on Saturdays to share experiences (and apparently play with Lego).

Gosia, our Customer Experience Designer, knows a thing or two about both creating great, user-friendly websites, and teaching - she conducts "Problem-solving with Design Thinking" classes at Adam Mickiewicz University. With this combination of skills being a speaker during Morela Student Business Club was a piece of cake for her! She talked about RWD, flat design, trends, and... skeuomorphism. If you saw her presentation then you know what it means, if you didn't, then let me Google that for you.

40. Anita, Ania, and I had the possibility to leave the office and visited Warsaw, where we've spent the whole day in the cinema. However, we were not watching movies but participating in Online Marketing Congress, where we learned quite a lot about the world of marketing, social media, and advertising campaigns. I have to admit that speakers really did a good job in sharing their knowledge - their presentations were filled with humour and useful information. But thank God that it's Friday because after spending the whole day in Multikino I can't wait to have some film marathon! ;)

45. IMO teenagers get a bad rep - studies show that they are dedicated, hard working, and care about the world. I was clearly seen after Maciek's presentation on Get to work event organised by Poznań's Youth Consultative Council. Our HR Manager obviously talked about the recruitment and described the dos and dont's of looking for a job. The amount of question he was asked showed that students really found his presentation interesting. You can check whole presentation (one hour of it!) on our Facebook profile.

50. I won't leave you without writing about my favorite #GeekShirtFriday of this month! As you can see, both Marcin and Chewbacca are feeling the change of seasons. While Marcin decided to celebrate the end of Winter with shorter sleeves, Chewie is still deep into cold weather and rather far behind on some personal grooming. But his pose (which Marcin didn't want to duplicate, shame!) and smizing are supermodel-worthy, so who cares. They both have 10/10 from me! ;)
