May the force of software development be with you - summary of May

As you know, for quite some time we not only sit in our office and work on software development but also attend (as well as organize!) plenty of events. This month we also introduced yet another internal initiative that will help us grow, created an exciting project for ourselves, and yet again invited people to our office. Here’s what we were up to this month!

Getting some rest during the weekend? Well, usually we love it but last week we decided to wake up early on Saturday. All because of @karierait , which we attended not only as exhibitors but also as speakers - our HR&EB Manager @kasiowo was talking about how not to make a career in the IT industry🤩. Her presentation got the best marks from attendees! 👏💪We’re super-proud 🧡 #meetmerix #merixstudio #jobsfair #job #work #candidate #candidates #interview #meetus #softwarehouse #networking #community #development #developers #softwaredevelopment #programming #programmer #dev #developer #webdeveloperslife #lecture #speaking #audience #event #itidustry #colleagues #folks #learning #careerup

In May we not only attended Kariera IT event as exhibitors but one of our HR Managers, Kasia, made her debut as a speaker there! As the title of this segment suggests it, she talked about the ways you can lower your chances of getting hired when looking for a job in the IT industry.

And, since I watched her presentation, I can confidently say that she did a smashing job - not only it was insightful and filled with great, practical tips, it also was genuinely funny. And boring presentations that give you no knowledge is the last thing you want on Saturday morning. ;) But you don’t have to take my word for it - turns out that out of all speakers, her presentation got the highest mark from attendees! Good job, Kasia!

Hacking your way to the best booking system

That’s how we spend some Friday evenings!👨‍💻 Instead of going home, we decided to have yet another #hackathon and work on Chamberlain, our conference room booking system. And, to keep ourselves motivated, we obviously did it with a little help of pizza… 🍕 . . . #meetmerix #merixstudio #software #softwarehouse #afterhours #pizza #community #team #teamwork #office #officelife #lovemyjob #development #developers #webdevelopers #softwaredevelopment #programming #programmer #dev #developer #webdeveloperslife #coding #webapp #webapplication #itidustry #colleagues #folks

In March we’ve organized the first edition of our internal hackathon, during which we developed new features of Chamberlain, our system for booking conference rooms. In May we decided to add yet more things to it, so once again we stayed late on Friday to work together and implement our ideas. As always, we kept ourselves energized by fueling ourselves with some pizza and sporadic Mortal Kombat breaks. Which, if you know us, doesn’t surprise anyone even one bit. ;)

Last Thursday we had an amazing evening - not only because we could share knowledge during our second #py_tej event, but also because we met lots of programming enthusiasts. ❤ We are delighted to see that the #python #community in Poznań is growing! 💪We’re also especially proud that the turnout was so great even during Juvenalia - good for you Guys for choosing knowledge! 😉 See you at py_tej #3! . . . #meetmerix #merixstudio #software #softwarehouse #networking #development #developers #backend #pythondeveloper #backenddevelopers #webdevelopment #webdeveloper #webdeveloperslife #coding #lecture #speaking #audience #itevent #softwaredevelopment #learning #careerup #Poznan #Poland #May #itindustry

With the first edition of py_tej under our belt, in May we once again invited the Python community to join us at Alibi Club and learn more about the backend development. This time the presentations touched on the topic of asynchronous servers, static typing, and duct tape programming. However, some things didn’t change, such as free lard/hummus sandwiches, vouchers to spend on the bar, and fun networking after the event. After all, you gotta take care of both mind and body! ;)

Shining the light (of knowledge) on the whole office

At Merixstudio with more than willing, we give the floor to our folks 💪. Yesterday we launched the new series of internal meetings dedicated to sharing the newfound knowledge. This time our lecturers were Sławek (TDD in React app), Leszek (ReactNative and Expo) and Krzysztof (serverless in Google Cloud), thanks, guys! We also owe @kusiciel, the idea man our thanks. We all hope for more! 👌🎤 #workshop #merixstudio #development #office #webdeveloper #webdevelopment #softwaredevelopment #knowledge #programmer #coding #apps #softwarehouse #developerslife

And talking about sharing knowledge, this month our software house started a new internal initiative - lightning talks. Adding it to internal presentations within teams and personal training budget, we wanted to have yet another way of ensuring that we’re up to date on everything IT-related. In May we met twice to discuss such things as, among others, test-driven development, projects we work, or even personal branding. And the list of future presentations grows by the minute - seems like finding new things to learn about is not a problem for us!

Another busy Saturday! This time our #DevCollege Combo was dedicated to #UI 🎨and our participants were learning Sketch from scratch. Great challenge but they managed it 👑 Congratulation for all of you and special thanks to the workshop's hosts - Jakub & Paweł. We’re starting to plan another events, stay tuned for more info! #workshop #uiworkshop #designworkshop #devcollegecombo #uidesigner #webdesigner #levelup #learning #saturday #office #officelife #happy #websitedesign #poznan #poland #merixstudio #ITindustry

Yet another occasion to share our knowledge! This time we invited designers to our office to learn about UI design in Sketch. And it seems like this topic is quite popular - plenty of you registered to learn from our Desing Team, Paweł and Kuba. As usual, we ended the event with pizza and networking, which was a great occasion to ask some additional questions, check out our office, or simply have some fun playing foosball. And, just like in regular college, now we’re having a vacation - our monthly Dev College events will be back in September, so see you then.

#RecruitUs and #MeetMerix

This month we also formally introduced everyone to our new initiative - informal meetings, during which it’s you that asks us questions! We wanted to invite you to talk about what it’s like to work in our software house, show everyone our office, and just have a chat. After the meeiting, you can decide for yourself whether you would like to apply for a job. To put it simply, we’re the one recruiting to be your employer, not the other way round! That’s why we prepared our CV and a video summarizing what the informal meetings are all about - check them out, schedule a meeting, and #MeetMerix!

New website for the summer!

Last, but FOR SURE not least! As you may know, IT outsourcing is the basis of our work. But sometimes we have to find the time to work for ourselves! In May we finally showed the world a project that we worked really hard on for quite some time - our new website. And we couldn’t be happier with the final result! Our new website contains such things as:

But that’s obviously not all! Browse through our website and see for yourself how many new things we introduced - you can even have a chat with our new robo-assistant! ;)
