Meet Merix: Magda - Business Analyst

New day, a new interview with one of the members of Merixstudio's gang. Today we have an incredible opportunity to meet Podolska! Okay, maybe Magda Podolska, who is working with Sales Team, has no family connection with the famous football player (but who knows?!), but she is as interesting person as Lukas. I must say that it was a hard job to collect some hot news about Magda. My little birds said only nice and flattering things about her. It seems that Magda could quite easily run a fashion blog. My sources admitted that she's well-dressed and have good taste. At the same time, she likes hunting up in second hands and appreciates vintage style. As you can see while watching our photos, Magda is one of those people who is always smiling, and it's not a fake! I knew that Magda can't be perfect so I had to go deeper. Fortunately, my little birds didn't fail me once again! It turned out that Magda is hiding party animal inside! Hard parties in a basement with a disco ball above the head have happened to her. Her favorite word is HROMONOGRAM. Yep, only recently she figured out that she has been pronouncing it wrong for her whole life. What a long intro! Let her speak for herself :)

  • Tell us something about yourself.
I have a lot of curiosity and optimism. What I really like is to plan, organize, take up the challenge and throw myself into the deep end of the pool.
  • What are your main responsibilities at Merxistudio?
What I do every day in my work is asking a lot of questions, listening, and cementing relationships with Clients. I’m all about finding out about Clients’ needs, giving advice, and checking if and how we can help them to boost and scale their businesses. In other words, I’m here to make Clients journey through the first phase of contacting with Merixstudio easier. I’m with them to the beginning of development phase and, by that time, my job is to analyze project targets, work together with the team on estimation and make sure that organize matters are under control. I also ask for and get feedback from the Client for the duration of the project development.
  • What is important to you while working?
While you’re working with Clients, every day is different. I always focus on Clients - Skype calls, learning about new projects, asking and getting answers. It’s what I do in my day-to-day work.
  • Tell us something about your beginnings in the company.
My start at Merixstudio was quite remarkable. Kamil (the Team Leader of the sales team) that was responsible for the onboarding had a knee injury not long before my first day in the company, and because of that, he couldn't come to the office. But even so, everything was good and went well - thank goodness that a lot of things we can do online :) I spent my first days trying to remember all names, reading the manual of the sales team that includes descriptions of workflow as well as meeting peeps from different teams and listening about the ways of Merixstudio’s run and organized.
  • What have you learned while working in Merixstudio?
Well, I found a way to read between the lines, what comes in handy when you’re responsible for the contact with Clients ;) But what is the most important, I learned about intricacies of business development.
  • What do you like the most about Merixstudio?
Messaging with people from around the world and work-life balance.
  • When did you make a decision that you want to work in IT?
I had been hit by the IT bug during one of the Geek Girls Carrots’ meeting when Agnieszka Amborska from Netguru had been talking about Project Manager’s work. She had highlighted that you don’t need a tech course to start working in the industry. After the event, I started to learn, read articles about IT industry and watch dev tutorials on YT. And that’s where I saw the difference between frontend and backend development. Then I found it a milestone on the road to the job in the IT :) I started my IT adventure six months later.
  • What do you think is most difficult (and most interesting) in your work as a Business Analyst?
Working with Clients with widely-diversed expectations, backgrounds, cultures and work ethos. This requires very empathetic and individual approach but is fascinating on the other hand.
  • The first thing you do when you arrive at the office.
Drink a cup of coffee + planning and prioritizing tasks using Trello.
  • iOS or Android?
    Android.
  • What do you do in your free time?
I try to spend my free time outdoors. So I usually do sports - play squash or run. Besides, I tinker and set up my flat recently.
  • The best hero from your childhood is…
    The Lion King!
  • Where is your favorite place in Poznań?
Rusałka Lake, very early in the morning. I like nature and, from time to time, peace :)
  • Beer or vodka?
Beer in the summer and vodka in the winter.
  • Sports?
Like I said before I do sports like squash or running. I prefer to act not watch.
  • Which website do you visit the most?
It’s Facebook (and I’m afraid that I visit it definitely too often).
  • Favorite app.
Let me point out a few of them. Again, Facebook that I consider as an aggregator of content and news. Then it’s Messenger that allows me to be close to my friends. Storytel and Spotify that make my way to work nice. Last but not least, CouchSurfing that enable me to travel without leaving my flat.
  • The light or dark side?
    The light one.
  • If you could only visit one website for the rest of your life, what site would that be?
I think it could be YouTube or Netflix.
  • If you could have your dream job, what it would be?
Any job in the IT industry that takes me close to people, makes me feel I do something meaningful, puts me among interesting and cool people and is task-oriented. I think my current job fits this description.
  • 4 things you would like to bring to a desert island with you…
Preferably, I would bring there my four friends instead of thing ;)
