Changes, podcasts, and a lot of pets - summary of March

If you've ever been to Małachowskiego 10 or follow us on social media, you know how much we value the atmosphere that we have in our office, so it's no wonder that we miss each other's company. But with the help of videocalls and other tools, we managed to stay in touch, have fun, and, surprise surprise, also do some work - here’s what we were up to in the last 30 days.

New career page

We’ve been working on this project for a while - we deemed that our old career page didn’t adequately reflect who we were as well as wanted our candidates to have as comfortable and pleasant experience as possible when applying for a job. Working with our Product Design department, we’ve come up with a site that we think managed to address both of those topics! With career paths, videos about our teamwork and informal meetings, photos showcasing the atmosphere in the office, and much more, we’re quite proud of the final product - check it out for yourself!

Małachowskiego, how we miss you!

When we were filming this video with Karol, we didn’t know how soon our project would be the only way of interacting with our office! We simply wanted to show the things we are proud of in our headquarters - the comfy silent rooms, fun gaming stations, relaxing chill space with a massage chair (oh, how I miss you, buddy!), and fully-equipped workshop room. Well, now it serves as a reminder that if we want to use all those commodities, we have to #StayAtHome!

#MeetMerix, we’re fun!

New circumstances didn’t stop us from doing good work! Among the things that didn’t change was our #MeetMerix series, where we introduce our coworkers and tell you a bit about what they do at work, their passions, and their traits that are especially visible when working together. In March, we introduced, among others, Kamil, without whom we wouldn’t function as well as we are functioning! As one of our Office Coordinators, he is tirelessly helping us whenever we need some assistance - be it with our computers or other office-related issues. And he seems happy to do so, no matter how many times you call him for help! And believe me, I’ve tested his patience many times. ;)

Why is it worth working with Merixstudio?

It’s always great to listen to people telling nice things about you. And it’s especially nice if those people are our clients! That’s why making this video about our relationship with them and how we work was simply a pleasure! Apart from talking about the quality of our work, they also mentioned something that some people often forget about - how the company culture influences both employees and clients! In addition to that, they also mentioned that we were recommended to them by our previous clients - the highest praise there is! But don’t let me tell you everything they describe in the video - watch it yourself!

The biggest perk of working from home

We may miss our comfy desks and even comfier couches in our chill rooms, but what we don’t miss is having to leave our pets at home. Because even with the pet-friendly policy in our office, nothing beats staying home and working hand-in-paw with our cats and dogs! And, obviously, this means taking plenty of photos and sending them to everyone on Slack - we have a channel dedicated to animal content which, to be frank, is quite busy these days. Which is highly encouraged, of course! ;)

Supporting each other in every way possible

We support each other not only at work but also after we finish it! Before, we frequently watched movies, played music, or exercised together. Now, with social distancing in full swing, we wanted to help each other not get crazy when staying home all the time. That’s why we created a Google spreadsheet, where we shared our recommendations for movies, tv shows, books, podcasts, YouTube channels, and activities that help us stay sane. And since everything is better when shared, we posted them online - maybe our choices will also help you!

Podcasting about the IT world

Among our podcast recommendations also was Piątki po deployu, our own production! With recording being a little less comfortable than in the office, Mateusz and Miłosz still managed to have a chat about Python and Node.js, during which they covered their history, how they work, and much, much more. So feel free to check it out on Spotify, Apple Podcast, SoundCloud, or YouTube. After all, it’s the best time to stay at home and listen to podcasts!

That would be all! As you can see, we're doing our best to stay safe, keep in touch with our teammates, and support each other during these trying times. We also have plenty of things planned for April - see you again in the next summary!
