Never-ending fun at the end of summer - summary of August

Summer in the office is a rather special time of the year - plenty of people are on their vacation, so many desks are temporarily abandoned. In comparison to the city, which is bursting with a variety of events, the life at work may seem rather boring. Well, not for us! Here are some things that we did during August to compensate for the lack of sitting by the pool with fruity drinks in our hands:

#1 Summer school for Django Developers

That's a wrap on our #pycon adventure! Our Django Team, apart of gaining some valuable knowledge, also passed the test when it comes to covering the event on our Insta Story :) Good job, Guys, now back to work! ;) 💻 #pycon2017 #conference #learning #knowledge #webdev #webdesign #polishboys #webdeveloper #softwarehouse #itindustry #softwarehouse #merixstudio #pythondeveloper #django

Let’s start with something that happened outside of our office. Heck, even outside of our voivodeship! Almost everyone from our Django Team (two Developers were busy visiting their families and getting married) ditched the comfort of their own desks and travelled to Ossa, where the PyCon PL 2017 conference happened to be organized. From what I know they couldn't be happier about it - not only because of the variety of interesting presentation and workshops, but also thanks to the big amount of tasty food that was served there. ;) Before they left Poznań, however, they were given a task that was never given to them before - they were entrusted with covering the whole event on our Instagram live! They obviously did a great job and you can be sorry if you missed it, but don't worry - Mateusz wrote about what happened during their Python themed weekend on our blog!

#2 Calm doesn't have to mean boring!

How to behave in front of the camera - a little tips and trics from our Devs 🎬🎥📹 Seems like they share their acting coach - they gave the same brilliant performance regardless sitting on other sides of the room ;) #workinghard #hardlyworking #acting #thespiansofwebdevelompent #brilliance #officefun #officelife #funatwork #webdev #webdesign #softwarehouse #merixstudio #poznan

Django Team was able to attend PyCon, but what about the rest of us? Were we stranded behind our desk with eyes only on work? If you thought so, then you probably don't know us very well. ;) That's one of the things I like in Merixstudio - the ability to make day-to-day life in the office interesting by adding a bit of fun to web development. As you can see in the video, all you need to do is approach someone, and the shenanigans will ensue!

#3 An apple a day keeps the bug away

The masterpiece is finished! Thanks to Paweł, our illustrator, we'll never forget what is really important when it comes to our daily diet 🍎🍐🍌 Thankfully, fresh fruit is always waiting for us at Merixstudio 😊 #fruit #freshfruit #fruitisalwaysagoodidea #softwarehouse #merixstudio #office #officelife #healthycompany #healthyfood #illustration #handdrawn #masterpiece

We have some truly talented people in our software house! One of them is Paweł, the designer that worked on for instance Kopanito. This time we let him channel his inner rebel and graffiti artist by asking him to make a drawing on the wall in our chill room. As you can see, he chose not to create a tribute to his favourite football team and focused on creating a message that will help us to prepare for the approaching autumn. This (not so) little reminder about the free fruits that people can munch on is then not only good for the eyes, but also for the immune system!

#4 Is it work? It doesn't feel like it...

And that's how (micro)workshops should look like! 👍We suspect nothing but great cooperation after our meeting with @everclassiccom, with whom we've worked before. Their awesome artworks can be seen as a nice indicator of the project we're going to work on :) #newclient #oldclient #workshop #cooperation #brainstorm #workinghard #meeting #work #officelife #newproject #excited #atwork #lovemyjob #office #cooloffice #webdev #webdesign #softwarehouse #poznan #merixstudio

Turns out you can work and relax at the same time! All you need is the room with grass carped it in your office. As I've said a couple of times on our Instagram, it ended up being the favourite place to have a meeting. And it's not only our preference - our clients seem to love it too! This month we were visited by Everclassic, an online trading platform for buying and selling art, furniture and design. Judging by both our previous project and the cool designs of their product, we're going to create something interesting together. Stay tuned!

#5 Booking a conference room have never been easier

Our booking system is finally here and, as you can see, it's also connected to our internal Google calendar. Sales Team (and Marysia) are one of the first people to use it - just look how happy they are, getting to have a meeting in the best room of our office;) #meeting #hardware #booking #officelife #happy #happyoffice #coworkers #fakegrass #greenroom #workinghard #work #webdev #webdesign #softwarehouse #poznan #igpoznan #merixstudio

And, since we're talking about meetings and room preferences in the office, it's only natural to mention yet another new addition to our headquarters. Some time ago we started looking for an effective room booking system. Then, after the quick look-around on the market, we decided to choose a different path and create something of our own. What's more, what you can see in the picture is the product of our internal workshops! Turns out that what people are saying is true - if you want to have something perfect, do it yourself!

#6 Wanna play a game?

Our #QATeam truly knows how to play!😎 Right now they are having a TEST CHALLENGE, in which they mix quality assurance tasks with the bonding ones. Even a minute before the photo was taken Luiza won a point by correctly guessing a "Truman Show" quote. And that's how you do it, kids! 👍#work #workinghard #fun #funatwork #friends #gamification #games #polishboy #polishgirl #qa #qualityassurance #softwarehouse #lovemyjob #happy #winner #cool #webdev #webdesign #merixstudio #poznan #igpoznan

Our QA Team are not people that shy away from the fun, which is not unusual in our company. This time they decided to come up with more long-lasting entertainment and created a test challenge. But let me make one thing clear - you need to remember to look at it as a fun addition to daily tasks, not the main focus of their work! This way you'll truly appreciate how cool of an idea it is - they can do their job and still feel a bit like playing a game. It's another example that gamification, when done properly, can make wonders - kudos to Marek for coming up with this idea!

#7 French revolution in Human Ressources

Here's a short story of what Gacek thinks about not being in the kitchen during the lunch break. As you can see, he's not a fan of sitting idily when there's food to be begged for! #frenchie #frenchbulldog #officedog #lunchbreak #polishboy #polishdog #dogintheoffice #dog #cute #officefun #monday #work #webdev #webdesign #softwarehouse #poznan #merixstudio

Our HR department is not the biggest one and includes only one person, Maciek. However, he cannot complain about being lonely since he's sitting next to Anita who, as we've seen on our Instagram, knows a thing or two about fighting boredom. Or maybe I'm mistaken? Well, Gacek is a rather frequent guest in our office, so maybe Maciek is simply looking for a friend? If so, then I'm not sure that's a good plan - Gacek, as you can see, got his priorities straight and doesn't care about bonding. It's all about food during lunch hours (and all other hours)! But there's hope for Maciek - simply check out the job section on our website and send him your CV so he won't have time for sulking around ;)

#8 Last Pokemon trainer standing

Such a pure, happy photo for our #GeekShirtFriday! But is there some other way to pose when sporting a shirt with baby #pokemons? No, there is not!💁#pokemon #pokemongo #geek #geekboy #geeky #squirtle #bulbasaur #charmander #babypokemon #adorable #cute #webdev #webdesign #softwarehouse #merixstudio #poznan

Remember Pokemon Go, this game that everyone went bonkers over not a long time ago? Well, I have to admit that I needed to google its name since I've already forgotten it. But that's not the case for Wiesiek, who still is a devoted fan! As you can see, he became a bit low-key about it compared to his outfits from last year, but there's no denying that with his dedication he'll probably need to travel to different cities to not get bored with it. Yet another impressive example of his geekiness - keep it up, Wiesiek!

#9 The VIP version of the summary

Do you think that that's all that happened during August? Well, think again! Some things, however, are reserved only for our VIP readers, and by that I mean our coworkers. Today we published another internal newspaper, in which we described every little scandal. And let me tell you, there were plenty of them! It's yet another reason why you should send us your cv - so you can find out the dirtiest little secrets of Merixstudio ;)
