#1 Flowers are blooming, Merixstudio is learning

May in Poland is associated with both barbequing (gotta love the long weekend!) and learning - during this month high school graduates are trying their best to pass their exams. While the latter is only the matter of (not so) fond memories for us, it didn’t discourage anyone from learning! With the variety of different conference rooms, it wasn’t a problem for Jacek to gather the QA team and teach them a thing or two about Git, an open source distributed version control system (VCS). Knowledge is power, kids! :)

Our new office is not only for learning - surprisingly, it's also for working! ;) Maria, Sławek, and Maciek proved it by inviting one of our regular clients, Polskie Wydawnictwo Rolnicze, to talk about their new project. They discussed the product, talked about personas and how to satisfy them - all those things software house does at the beginning of our work. Judging by Maciek’s face, everything went rather good ;)

I’m not saying that our old office was bad - I actually loved it! It was fairly cozy, there was a Playstation for our entertainment and the whole place had a quirky vibe and unique atmosphere. But with the new space came the possibility to broaden our entertainment and leisure possibilities. Such a blank canvas was painted with twenty bean-bag chairs, another Playstation, comfy couches, blackboard walls, foosball table… Well, to keep it short - a lot of new things appeared at our place ;) However, the most exciting thing (no disrespect to my Fifa-crazy colleagues!) is the new arcade game. Now we can in style play Mortal Kombat, Mario, and many other games1 There is, however, one teensy problem when your break is over and you have to go back to work - how one can do it when there’s a possibility to have so much fun instead? ;)
#4 Two years of DevCollege workshops!

This month is our second anniversary of Dev College workshops, where we teach students the ins and outs of web development. To celebrate we… organised a workshop, what a surprise! ;) Marcin and Marcin (our office is filled with various Marcins;)) talked about creating HTML5 games with Phaser. But when you develop a game, you also need to test it! At the end of the meeting, when the game was developed, everyone whipped out their phones and played. Thank you, multiplayer, without you people would argue who goes first! ;)

Since the first edition of DevQuiz was so well received, it was only a matter of time until Apptension organises its follow-up. Once again we had the possibility to compete against other IT companies from the Poznań when it comes to knowledge of both web development, games, and many (not so) IT-related issues. We were winning for quite some time during the quiz, but unfortunately, at the last minute we were surpassed and got the second place. It's still a good result, but that’s not what it’s all about - the most important thing is having fun!*
* Ok, next time we’re planning to win. Poznań, beware! ;)
#6 Inspections don’t have to be scary

After a few weeks of pampering, our office was ready for the most difficult of inspections! With hearts on our sleeves, we were awaiting the visit of Feta - she was going to decide whether her beloved Anita can leave her at home to work in such conditions. Luckily the first minutes of inspection showed us that there was nothing to worry about, since she (Feta, not Anita;)) started running, sniffing, and playing around! The calmness on the photos was obviously achieved with the bribe of some doggy treats. Since everyone works on the same floor (instead of the previous three), this time Feta could’ve freely check out on everyone and bark when she saw some slacking around. IT industry truly is a dog eats dog world!
#7 Where’s the Sales team?

Our Sales Team seems rather difficult to be sold to. Even with all the new additions to the office, we simply can’t keep them by their desks. This month Michał and Asia ran around Poznań and attended such events as Poznań Business Day and Startup Poznań. Let’s just hope that they simply wanted to network and learn new things rather than spend some time apart from us. ;)

We’ve got fed up with hiding! With the premiere of Wonder Woman movie and Anita's purchase of the new shirt, came the mini-revolution in our Geek Shirt Friday series. It’s time to stop focusing on people's chests and let their faces do the talking :) From now on we are saying no to the intense cropping - just wait for the next Friday to meet yet another geek of our software house:)
