Meet Merix: Pablo - Django Developer

It wasn't too hard to collect some information about Pablo. He's very social so that my little birds had a lot to say. I would first of all like to stress that Pablo likes to joke around and adds a jocular tone. On the other hand, he's rather direct and blunt - like a real badass playing at doom/stoner metal band. It is a crazy combination and you will clearly see it in the following interview. Talking about the band, I'm sure he will use this talk to promote his music group - Tortuga (we discovered his passion when he tried to sell tickets for his concert everyone at the company). But if you want to learn more about the team, read the article where he tells a story of Tortuga. Pablo switch guitar and mic and keyboard working as a Django Developer. Because he comes from Spain, and we have a lot of fans of Narcos series at Merixstudio, he shall act as The Main Spanish Curse Explainer.

  • Tell us something about yourself.
I am from a far land full of sun, wine, icy beer, siestas and bulls, I think I covered all the stereotypes, right? (Yes, I’m Spanish). I am one of the older developers cause I spent my twenties searching how to generate clean energy from human faeces (no jokes here!). After work, I am guitarist/singer in a band named TORTUGA - a doom/stoner metal band. Remember, TORTUGA. Always glad to use these spaces for free advertisement.
  • What are your main responsibilities at Merixstudio?
Dispelling the doubts of my colleagues about what means a word or sentence said in the Narcos series. Besides, sometimes I code in Django, but that is secondary.
  • What is important to you while working?
I don’t know… maybe just the work? Next question, please.
  • Tell us something about your beginnings in the company.
Well, I had no experience in the IT world before, I just learnt how to code while I was working on my PhD, got to love that and, I decided that I want to work in the industry. I think it helped that I answered correctly to one of the most important questions Miłosz asked me while job interviewing: “Do you like to drink vodka?”.
  • What have you learned while working in Merixstudio?
Everything I know about software coding! In Merixstudio I learnt how to really code. Before that, I just had some knowledge of algorithms and Python. Also, I improved my Fifa and foosball skills.
Pablo, Django Developer at Merixstudio
  • What do you like the most about Merixstudio?
The perks of Merixstudio are awesome - the foosball table and the bottom drawer full of beers in the office fridge (yes, I noticed their sudden appearance). I take one bottle every time I have a band rehearsal after work! Also, I don’t have to smell shit every day as I had to in the laboratory while I was working on my PhD, you wouldn’t believe how important is not to smell that bad all day.
  • What was the biggest challenge you faced while working at Merixstudio?
Reaching the level of my co-workers. Most of them graduated IT studies, or have been working in IT for years. They have a lot of knowledge how the internet works, how to create and manage servers, how computers work at low level. In the beginning, I didn't have that kind of knowledge, and it was frustrating, all the more so since I was learning it in Polish!
  • What cool things have you worked on at Merixstudio?
I would say that Pyrkon is the coolest project I worked on, mostly cause of the size of the project itself.
  • When did you make a decision that you want to work in IT?
During my work on PhD, once I had on me a sewage sludge till my knees, and I thought: ‘I have to get out of here, man’.
  • What do you think is most difficult and what is most interesting in your work as a Backend Developer?
It is difficult to be up-to-date with the latest technologies and versions of everything. But, it is also very heartwarming when you use those new skills and tools, and you got things done with them.
  • The first thing you do when you arrive at the office.
    I go wild, eat breakfast.
  • iOS or Android?
F*** iOS… And that’s all I have to say about that.
  • What do you do in your free time?
TORTUGA!!! Also, as a good old millennial: Netflix, video games, sports… blah blah blah.
  • The best hero from your childhood is…
    Homer Simpson.
  • Where is your favorite place in Poznań?
    My rehearsal room.
  • Beer or vodka?
I’m not going to answer that, it is like choose between mom and dad
  • Sports?
Ok, but not too much, I get tired quickly.
  • Dog or cat?
    Platypus.
  • Which website do you visit the most?
    Meneame.

  • Favorite app.
PH viewer privately, Spotify in public.
  • The light or dark side?
The one where the party is better.
  • If you could have your dream job, what it would be?
A mix between guitarist, developer, scientist, astronaut and Goku, but not working more than 6 hours per day.
