Meet Merix: Adam - Front-end Developer

Anyway, we already have quite big Front-end team. One of this staff members is Adam - tech-savvy professional and curious about new digital technologies. To be honest, I had a huge problem with collecting hot news about Adam. My little birds threw up their hands (wings? ;)) in helplessness. One thing is certain: he is rather tight-lipped, doesn't like talking about himself, and takes care about his privacy. He even doesn't have a Facebook profile (can you imagine?!), which is the reason of (inside) office jokes from time to time. I also managed to get the info about him being a cat owner (can't wait to meet your furry friend, Adam!). Things which come to mind when thinking about Adam are motorbike, motorbike, and motorbike again. He's for sure a big fan of motorization. And everything that you can learn about Adam, you will find in the following interview (and this will be only what he wanted to say about himself and nothing more).

  • Tell us something about yourself.
I'm a motorbike enthusiast, front-end developer and I don't like talking about myself.
  • What are your main responsibilities at Merxistudio?
Like I said before, I'm working as a front-end developer. I'm responsible for implementing visual elements that users see and interact with in a web app.
  • What is important to you while working?
A peace of mind is something that I need badly when I'm working. The possibility to stay focused and the situation when I don't need to switch between too many projects (it's perfect when I have only one project to work on) are very crucial for me.
  • Tell us something about your beginnings in the company.
I have been working at Merixstudio... oh my! It was seven months ago when I started! I remember my first day very well - it etched in my memory because I began with a little office prank. My monitors were flipped from landscape to portrait mode and tied up with cable ties. I was really glad because I got outer (commercial) project straightaway.
  • What have you learned while working in Merixstudio?
It's never late to learn - I'm gaining new knowledge every day. Front-end technologies are rapidly evolving - you have to run a race and try to chase the rabbit all the time.
  • What was the biggest challenge you faced while working at the Merixstudio?
The biggest challenge I faced working at Merixstudio is... this interview. I have no idea how I can answer all your questions.
  • What cool things have you worked on at Merixstudio?
I think the project I'm working on right now is really gravy. It's a web application based on Angular 1.5. In my opinion, web development is quite tedious, and I have more fun when I create a web app. It's also more challenging when it comes to programming.
  • When did you make a decision that you want to work in IT?
I built my first websites when I was 13. They were based on HTML table layouts, and I used one-pixel gifs, hard spaces, and images to create rounded corners. It was times when IE was the most popular web browser on the market. Everything started with me setting up a server for a game. Users accounts were managed by a website which code was created by the community and published for free (open source). I had to install PHP to run with Apache and implement MySQL database. I have always been curious how different things work, so I took websites up, started tinker and I lost myself in programming.
  • What do you think is most difficult (and most interesting) in your work as a Frontend Developer?
The most difficult is fixing web browsers' problems - everything works perfectly in one, and it doesn't work at all in other. It put you in a situation when you're staring at the code and wondering "Come on Safari! What is going on this time?". What I like the most in working as a front-end developer is the ability to create something from scratch.
  • The first thing you do when you arrive at the office.
    I take off my helmet.
  • iOS or Android?
    BB10.
  • What do you do in your free time?
I ride a motorcycle or a bike. I like playing both computer and board games. Besides, I read books and learn new programming stuff.
  • The best hero from your childhood is...
All Disney characters that are actually positive.
  • Where is your favorite place in Poznań?
Any special place that I can call favorite comes to my mind. I like Malta Lake, Citadel Park or Park Sołacki.
  • Beer or vodka?
Beer but not made by big companies - rather craft one.
  • Sports?
As you will have gathered, I like motor sports. I follow WRC and MotoGP. When it comes to myself, most often I ride a bike and go on a racetrack from time to time.
  • Dog or cat?
    Both.
  • Which website do you visit the most?
I rather don't visit obsessively one website.
  • The light or dark side?
    The light one!
  • If you could only visit one website for the rest of your life, what site would that be?
Well, nothing special comes to my mind right now - maybe it would be Joemonster.org
  • If you could have your dream job, what it would be?
    Racing driver!
